To support each other during difficult times is one essential tool for humans. Recognizing that I do not share their lived experience, I am there to listen and guide the individual to find the ability to teach themselves what they need to know in order to solve the problems that they will face throughout life.
Materials for Learning
In person or online, students collaborate on projects, listen to each other’s ideas and take pride in their hard work when sharing with their class and the community. As a colleague, we check-in with each other to feel and show empathy for others. This helps us to establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions in our curriculum.
Continuing Education for Teachers
My leadership philosophy stems from my background as a first-generation, latina, catholic woman. Mindful listening is an emotional intelligence which is powerful in helping others. In my practice as a colleague, I have embraced Social and Emotional Learning standards as an aid in identifying and communicating these principles.
Support for Communities
Education happens within the context of a larger community. My approach extends beyond the school to help ensure students have the necessary support to do their best learning and create relationships. To build bridges it take some cooperation and collaboration from all participating parties.
